Photographer/Editor (Part-Time)

Paramount is hiring a part-time Photographer/Editor to join the CBS News and Stations team in Minneapolis, MN. This role sits within the newsroom production workflow, where you will shoot and edit daily news and sports stories for broadcast, working across ENG field production and non-linear post. It is a strong fit for a working photojournalist with medium to major market experience who is comfortable operating independently on assignment and under deadline.

About the Role

You will be embedded in the CBS News and Stations operation in Minneapolis, one of 28 owned television stations across 17 major U.S. markets. Day to day, this means going out on assigned stories, setting up your own audio and lighting in the field, and coming back to cut finished pieces against newscast deadlines. Shifts rotate across nights, weekends, and some holidays, which is standard for broadcast news production at this level.

Key Responsibilities

• Shoot assigned news and sports stories in the field using ENG camera systems, applying journalistic standards to every frame.
• Set up audio and lighting on location based on the specific demands of each story and shooting environment.
• Edit finished broadcast packages daily using non-linear editing systems, turning around complete stories under live newscast deadlines.
• Operate ENG news vans to assignments, maintain assigned vehicles, and report any maintenance issues to the supervising manager.
• Work directly with reporters and producers to develop visually coherent stories, and also complete solo shooting assignments without editorial support.
• Maintain all assigned camera and support equipment in working order and flag any technical problems to the appropriate supervisor.

What You Bring

• Hands-on operating proficiency with Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P-2, or comparable broadcast ENG camera systems.
• Non-linear editing experience on Edius, FCP X, Avid, or a comparable post-production platform.
• Two to five years of photojournalism experience in a medium to major market broadcast news environment.
• Physical ability to shoulder and operate a broadcast ENG camera at 25 lbs. or more, plus carry support equipment including tripod and lights.
• NABET union membership is required for this position.
• FAA Part 107 license and drone flight experience are a plus, as is NPPA-style shooting background and a two to four year degree.
