About the Role

The Mid-Level Nuke Compositor works directly alongside VFX Supervisors and Leads within a structured post-production workflow, contributing to shots from initial look development through to final delivery. The production slate runs to high-profile projects where the technical bar is set by the Supervisors, but individual compositors are expected to bring problem-solving and aesthetic judgment to every shot. A typical day involves pulling grades, integrating renders, refining mattes, and attending shot reviews with senior staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Composite live-action and CG elements using Nuke, maintaining photorealism and consistency with established looks across the VFX pipeline.
• Work with VFX Supervisors to interpret briefs and translate technical direction into finished frames that meet both creative and delivery standards.
• Establish and refine compositing approaches for individual shot types, including sky replacements, screen inserts, crowd simulations, and environment extensions.
• Generate and refine mattes using roto and paint techniques, ensuring clean edge handling and grain matching across varied plate conditions.
• Manage your own shot workload against production schedules, flagging technical or creative issues to Leads before they affect delivery dates.
• Apply colour science principles and LUT management correctly within the studio pipeline to maintain consistency from comp through to DI.

What You Bring

• Minimum three years of compositing experience in a commercial VFX pipeline, with credits on feature film production, episodic television, or high-end commercial work.
• Proficiency in Nuke as your primary compositing tool, with a working understanding of node-based workflows at a production level.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate CG renders with live-action plates, including lighting matching, edge refinement, and atmospheric integration.
• Familiarity with common VFX pipeline tools and asset management systems used in studio environments.
• A showreel that reflects clean, graded comp work rather than just technical exercises.
