Lighting TD

Framestore is hiring a Lighting TD based in London to join their Film and Episodic VFX studio. About the Role

The Lighting TD reports to the Head of Lighting and works across Framestore’s feature film and episodic project slate, contributing to shots from initial CG scene assembly through to final render delivery. Day to day, this means implementing lighting setups directed by the Lighting Lead or Supervisor, integrating assets from across departments, and working closely with Compositors to refine shots through the post-production workflow. The role demands consistent output at a level that matches Framestore’s reputation as a multi-Oscar-winning VFX studio.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement shot lighting as directed by the Lighting Lead or Supervisor, maintaining photorealistic standards across all CG sequences.
• Assemble 3D scenes by integrating assets from multiple departments and ensuring all elements are correctly prepared for rendering.
• Analyse real-world lighting conditions, including colour temperature and direction, and accurately replicate them within the CG environment.
• Create and optimise render setups to make efficient use of the render farm while meeting production schedules and deadlines.
• Collaborate with shot Compositors to develop, refine, and deliver additional render passes as required by the comp.
• Coordinate with CG Supervisors and asset departments to resolve complex shading and look development challenges on VFX shots.

What You Bring

• Proven look development experience on high-end VFX feature film or episodic television productions.
• Deep knowledge of physically plausible shading systems and rendering techniques applied to photorealistic CG assets.
• Solid understanding of real-world lighting and photography principles and how they translate into a CG context.
• Demonstrated ability to optimise shading setups for render farm performance within a production pipeline.
• A track record of meeting deadlines while maintaining quality standards on high-volume shot counts.
