Junior Vfx Apprentice

Viridian FX Limited is hiring a Junior VFX Apprentice based in York, North Yorkshire. This is a paid, eighteen-month Level 4 apprenticeship embedded within a VFX studio that works across compositing, CG, 3D workflows, and post-production pipeline from pre-production through to final delivery. The role suits someone who makes things on their own time, not because they were asked, but because they wanted to see what would happen.

About the Role

Viridian FX operates differently from a standard VFX shop, bringing creatives into the process at the pre-production stage rather than treating visual effects as a finishing step. As a Junior VFX Apprentice, you will work directly alongside professional artists on real projects with real deadlines and real audiences, contributing to VFX pipeline work including compositing, CG, and emerging technology experimentation. From week one, your ideas are expected to be in the room.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to visual effects and compositing work across live projects under the supervision of senior VFX artists.
• Participate in CG, 3D, and digital workflow production tasks appropriate to your developing skill level.
• Work within the full post-production workflow, from pre-production planning through to final delivery.
• Engage with directing and storytelling discussions as part of the creative team, not as an observer.
• Experiment with emerging technologies including tools such as Unreal Engine as part of the studio’s creative development process.
• Complete the structured learning and assessment requirements of the Level 4 apprenticeship alongside your production role.

What You Bring

• No formal degree or showreel is required, work you made independently carries more weight here.
• Some practical experience with VFX, compositing, 3D tools, or video editing, even in a self-taught or personal project context.
• Familiarity with any relevant software across the post-production or CG pipeline, whether learned formally or otherwise.
• A track record of finishing things, or at least seriously attempting them, across film, video, game engines, or related media.
• Eligibility to complete a Level 4 apprenticeship in the UK.
