Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

22Dogs is hiring a Head of VFX to lead the launch of its new studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This role sits at the intersection of creative leadership and operational build-out, overseeing high-end visual effects production for an Apple TV+ series from the ground up. It suits a senior VFX professional who has run a department before and knows what it takes to establish a pipeline, not just work within one.

About the Role

The Head of VFX at 22Dogs will be the central creative and technical authority for the Toronto studio’s VFX pipeline, working directly on a flagship Apple TV+ episodic production. Day-to-day, this means managing shot turnover, vendor relationships, and internal team output while keeping the creative vision aligned with the showrunner and director. The studio is being built from scratch, so the role carries real weight in setting how the department functions long-term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of VFX production for an Apple TV+ series, from pre-production planning through final delivery and mastering.
  • Build and mentor an in-house VFX team, establishing hiring standards, workflow structures, and a creative culture that can scale across future productions.
  • Manage the VFX pipeline end-to-end, including shot tracking, bidding, vendor oversight, and integration with the post-production workflow.
  • Collaborate directly with directors and production leadership during on-set VFX supervision to ensure proper plate photography and data capture.
  • Evaluate and implement the software and tools the studio will standardize on, making decisions that affect the team’s capacity and quality output for years.
  • Maintain creative quality control across all VFX deliverables, ensuring consistency with the series’ visual language through every episode.

What You Bring

  • A substantial track record in visual effects at a senior or supervisory level, with credits on episodic television or feature film production.
  • Hands-on experience building or restructuring a VFX department, not just operating within an established one.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard VFX software and compositing tools used in high-end episodic work, such as Nuke, Houdini, or equivalent pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, and vendor contracts across a full production cycle.
  • Strong communication skills when working across departments, including production, editorial, and studio executives.

Why This Role

22Dogs is building something real in Toronto, and this is a genuine opportunity to shape a studio’s identity from day one rather than inherit someone else’s infrastructure. The production slate includes work for one of the most prominent streaming platforms in the industry, which carries both visibility and creative standards worth meeting. Compensation is competitive and reflects the seniority and scope of the position.
