About the Role

This is a freelance position within the CBS News and Stations division, covered under the WGAE streaming agreement. Day to day, the Producer owns the rundown, writes and times scripts, oversees graphics, and leads the control room through both planned programming and breaking news situations. It is production-forward work, requiring someone who can hold editorial standards under pressure while keeping the broadcast moving with the right pacing and urgency.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, research, write, and produce news segments for a live national streaming newscast, from story selection through final air.
• Lead the control room as Line Producer, making real-time editorial calls during breaking news coverage.
• Manage rundown construction and segment timing with a clear sense of pacing and broadcast flow.
• Oversee script writing and news graphics creation in line with CBS News standards for grammar, accuracy, and active broadcast writing style.
• Collaborate with national assignment editors, field reporters, and executive producers on editorial and content decisions that meet CBS guidelines.
• Apply strong news judgment to story selection and presentation, ensuring context, clarity, and accuracy for a national streaming audience.

What You Bring

• A minimum of 5 years of broadcast or cable news production experience at a national or major market level.
• Proven live control room experience, including serving in a Line Producer capacity on a daily or breaking news program.
• A solid journalism foundation, including rundown management, concise broadcast writing, and news judgment under deadline.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in television production or journalism.
• Eligibility for coverage under the WGAE streaming agreement is required for this position.
