Film Lighting Equipment Technician – Grip, Rigging & Prep
- Full Time
- London, England, UK
Sunbelt Rentals UK & Ireland
Sunbelt Rentals UK & Ireland is hiring a Film Lighting Equipment Technician at their Wembley facility in London. This role sits at the operational heart of the Film Lighting Division, responsible for prepping, dispatching, and turning around lighting kit that goes directly onto UK film and television productions. If you are a detail-oriented technician who knows your way around a lighting package and understands what it means to get gear out the door on time and in perfect condition, this role is built for you.
About the Role
Working within the Film Lighting Division at the Wembley depot, you will support productions ranging from feature film shoots to high-end television drama by ensuring every piece of equipment leaves the facility prepped to a professional standard. Your day runs on prep schedules and return checks, working under Supervisors and an Operations Manager to keep the workflow moving without gaps. For anyone who understands rental house operations and the pressure productions put on equipment turnaround, this is a role with real stakes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare outgoing lighting equipment packages to production-ready standards, checking every unit against order manifests before dispatch.
- Receive and process returning kit from feature film and television productions, logging condition and flagging any damage or missing items immediately.
- Carry out routine maintenance and cleaning of lighting inventory to ensure gear is show-ready for the next booking.
- Organise and maintain the equipment store so that stock is accurately located, correctly stored, and easy to pull for prep.
- Work closely with Supervisors to prioritise prep schedules when multiple productions are drawing from the same inventory window.
- Support the wider operations team during high-demand periods, adapting to shifting dispatch and return timelines as production schedules change.
What You Bring
- Hands-on experience handling professional film lighting equipment, either from a rental house, studio, or on-set environment.
- A working knowledge of common film and television lighting fixtures, including their rigging, cabling, and safe storage requirements.
- Strong organisational habits with a track record of accurate kit checks and inventory management under time pressure.
- The ability to work methodically across multiple prep jobs without letting standards slip when the schedule gets tight.
- A physical readiness for the role, as moving, loading, and storing lighting equipment is a core part of the daily workload.
Why This Role
Sunbelt Rentals UK & Ireland is one of the larger equipment rental operations serving UK film and television production, which means the volume and variety of productions coming through the Wembley facility is genuine. For a Film Lighting Equipment Technician looking to build depth in rental house operations, the exposure to different production types and lighting packages is hard to replicate elsewhere. The role sits within a structured team, which means proper supervision and a clear operational framework rather than being left to figure things out alone.
Apply now for the Film Lighting Equipment Technician position at Sunbelt Rentals UK & Ireland and put your prep room experience to work on productions that matter.
