Job Type
Sony Pictures Entertainment is hiring a Drama Development Intern for its Culver City, California offices this fall. This role sits inside the drama development team, where the work spans the full arc of television development, from evaluating pitches and tracking scripts to sitting in on casting sessions and production meetings for potential series. It suits someone currently enrolled in a film or television program who wants to understand how episodic television actually gets made, not just in theory but deal by deal and draft by draft.
About the Role
The drama development team at Sony Pictures Entertainment shepherds projects from the initial pitch all the way through pilot production and, when things go right, a series order. As a Drama Development Intern, you are embedded in that process, working alongside the full drama team on active development slates and incoming material. A typical day involves reading scripts, rolling calls, updating status reports, and sitting in on the kind of meetings where development decisions actually get made.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and analyze incoming scripts and pitches, writing coverage that reflects an understanding of what works creatively and what the market is looking for in episodic television.
- Compile research on properties being considered for option, supporting the team’s evaluation of IP for drama series development.
- Roll calls using the specific protocol of a working entertainment desk, learning the rhythm of a high-volume creative office.
- Take detailed notes on calls and meetings, developing the judgment to identify what information is material to the development process.
- Schedule meetings with writers, directors, and producers, maintaining the relationships that are central to how television development operates.
- Update status reports across all active series, keeping the team aligned on where each project sits in the development pipeline.
What You Bring
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university for the full duration of the internship, September 8 or 14 through December 11, 2026.
- Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in film or television.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to write clear, specific script coverage.
- A genuine eye for creative material and an understanding of what makes drama work in the current television landscape.
- Availability to work part-time, between 10 and 29 hours per week, in person in Culver City.
Why This Role
Sony Pictures Entertainment runs one of the more active drama development operations in the business, with a track record of taking projects from pitch to air across broadcast and streaming. The Drama Development Intern position pays $19 per hour and may qualify for additional benefits. Applications are due August 7, 2026, and this is the kind of access to working development executives and active television development that is genuinely hard to find at the intern level.
Apply now for the Drama Development Intern role at Sony Pictures Entertainment and start building your footing in television development from the inside.
