The Pipeline Technical Director at DNEG works across multiple productions at once, supporting artists from departments like rigging, lighting, and compositing while also contributing to active development sprints. On any given day, that means fielding support tickets from a Montréal animator in the morning and pushing code for a new Maya tool through a sprint demo in the afternoon. The studio works on high-end animated feature films and series aimed at international audiences, including complex graphic novel adaptations, so the pipeline work carries real creative stakes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct technical support to artists across multiple concurrent animation productions, triaging and resolving pipeline issues or escalating them appropriately.
• Develop and maintain production tools primarily in Python, targeting DCC applications including Maya, Houdini, Katana, and Nuke.
• Participate in agile development sprints and present progress during sprint demos to colleagues and production stakeholders.
• Write clear technical documentation to support change management and tool adoption across the artist community.
• Mentor and guide Associate TDs in handling support requests and building their own technical competencies.
• Work under the Pipeline Architect and Pipeline Supervisors to help scope development projects in line with the studio’s pipeline roadmap and assist with show setup and configuration.

What You Bring

• Prior experience working in a feature film animation or VFX pipeline role at a production studio.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Linux, applied within a production pipeline context.
• Hands-on experience building tools for DCC suites such as Maya, Houdini, Katana, or Nuke.
• Solid understanding of animation and VFX production workflows, including how assets move between departments.
• Clear communication skills that work across both technical developers and non-technical artists.
• A degree in computer science, computer graphics, or a related field is considered an asset.
