No Gimmick Gear is looking for a costume stitcher/seamstress to help sew custom costume orders and perform fit alterations. All costume styles/designs are unique, with no mass production orders. Designs are predominantly for professional wrestling (WWE/AEW), dance, theater, film, and live performance art. Sewing is detail oriented, not mass production. You will be working directly with the designer or other shop employees to sew costumes from the cut pieces to completion. Costumes will already be patterned, so the position only requires garment construction. We are a small team currently of 3 people looking to add a 4th member to our team. Work hours are from 9:30am – 6:00pm. It is an 8 hour work day with a half hour lunch break. The position is for 1-3 days per week to start but we would love to increase their schedule if they are a good fit for the role.

We work predominantly with stretch fabrics (spandex, stretch vinyl, mystique, heavy weight lycra, faux leather, stretch sequins, etc). Strong preference will be given to those with experience working with stretch fabrics.

Responsibilities and Duties

Position Requirements:

– Must be available to commute to the location (Long Island City, Queens) on the 2nd floor using the stairs. There is no elevator.

– Must work in the studio and be able to perform sewing task on straight stitch machine, overlock/serger and cover stitch (industrial and home machines). There is no remote work option.

– Must have experience sewing spandex/stretch fabrics. We do a lot of pro wrestling and dance costumes using spandex, sequin and stretch fabrics

– Must be able to maintain a clean and organized shared work space

– Must be able to communicate effectively in English

– Preference given to candidates with knowledge of pattern making and cutting
