About the Role

The Best Boy functions as the Gaffer’s right hand, handling the logistics that keep the lighting department operational throughout a film production shoot. On a typical day, that means coordinating equipment before the crew hits the floor, managing cable runs and power drops between setups, and making sure every piece of gear is accounted for at the end of the night. This is a hands-on, on-set position that requires someone comfortable working across interior and exterior locations as the production moves.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Gaffer directly on all lighting setups and adjustments throughout the shoot, including changes between scenes and camera setups.
• Manage power distribution across set, including cable layout, load balancing, and safe tie-in practices.
• Coordinate the organization, transportation, and maintenance of lighting and electrical equipment from truck to set and back.
• Load and unload lighting packages, ensuring gear is properly inspected, stored, and ready for the next shooting day.
• Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing basic set safety standards within the electrical department.
• Communicate clearly with the Gaffer and production crew to anticipate lighting needs and respond to last-minute changes on set.

What You Bring

• Demonstrated experience as a Best Boy Electric or set electrician on narrative film production or comparable projects.
• Working knowledge of film lighting equipment including tungsten, HMI, and LED fixtures.
• Hands-on experience with power distribution, including distros, stingers, and cable management on location.
• Ability to lift and handle heavy equipment through the physical demands of a full production day.
• Solid understanding of on-set safety protocols specific to the electrical department.
