Industrial Light & Magic is hiring an Animator for their studio based in Moore Park, Sydney, Australia. This role sits within ILM’s animation department, where you’ll be responsible for creating high quality motion of CG characters, creatures, and objects across feature film and visual effects productions. It suits a mid-level animator with a solid background in computer animation who is ready to own shots independently and contribute to a feature film production pipeline at scale.

About the Role

ILM’s Sydney studio works across major feature film and VFX pipeline projects, contributing to some of the most technically complex animation work in the industry. Day to day, this animator role involves taking assigned shots from blocking through to final polish, attending dailies to give and receive feedback, and working within a Linux-based production environment using Maya as the primary animation tool. You’ll be expected to carry a consistent shot load while supporting entry-level animators on the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Animate a series of assigned shots on a specific feature film or VFX project, carrying work from initial blocking to final delivery within production deadlines.
• Attend dailies regularly to review shot work, provide notes to peers, and incorporate feedback from Senior Animators and Animation Supervisors.
• Provide animation reference including video recorded performance captures to support shot development for yourself and the wider animation team.
• Mentor entry-level animators on shot execution, offering technical and artistic guidance within the studio’s VFX pipeline.
• Collaborate with animation supervisors on aesthetic solutions for characters and creatures, maintaining consistency across sequences.
• Perform additional CG animation tasks as required by production, including object animation and simulation-driven shot work.

What You Bring

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Traditional Animation with 3 years of professional experience, or at least 5 years working in cel, stop motion, or computer animation.
• Expert working knowledge of Maya across a professional animation studio or VFX pipeline environment.
• Proficiency with Linux in a production setting is strongly preferred.
• A reel or portfolio demonstrating character, creature, or object animation at a feature film or episodic television level.
• Demonstrated ability to meet shot deadlines while maintaining quality across a sustained production schedule.
