Job Position(s): Coordinator, Script Clearance
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $50,000 - $65,000/year

Sony Pictures Entertainment is hiring a Coordinator, Script Clearance based out of their Culver City, California studio. This role sits inside the Intellectual Property department and handles the clearance workflow that keeps film and television productions covered under E&O insurance, from the first draft through final delivery. It suits an organized, detail-oriented professional who understands how legal and production teams interact on episodic television and feature film projects.

About the Role

The Script Clearance department identifies and resolves legal clearance issues across SPE’s film, television, and virtual reality productions, and the Coordinator keeps that process moving across multiple projects at once. Day to day, this person works directly with Script Clearance Analysts, tracks requests and releases in SCOUT (the department’s internal Script Clearance Online Utility Tool), and maintains active communication with production personnel across various stages of pre-production and production. The role touches everything from logging incoming scripts and drafting permission request letters to processing license fee payments and scheduling departmental screenings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and distribute script clearance report memos and spreadsheets using SCOUT, tracking item statuses and uploading reference images throughout the clearance process.
  • Draft permission request letters and legal Release forms for Analyst review, and record signed releases and responses in SCOUT and Legal Files.
  • Monitor Scenechronize for new scripts and revision pages, logging and routing materials to the appropriate Analyst across concurrent productions.
  • Coordinate with Analysts to prioritize clearance requests across multiple episodic television and feature film projects, following up on urgent items to meet production timelines.
  • Process departmental billing and invoices, including license fee payments, research services, and talent payments, liaising with Accounting as needed.
  • Review dailies, deleted scenes, advertising materials, and marketing and merchandise materials on an as-needed basis to identify clearance issues before they reach post-production.

What You Bring

  • Experience supporting a legal, business affairs, or production department in a studio or television production environment.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills, specifically for legal correspondence, memos, and release documentation.
  • Comfort managing correspondence and tracking workflows across several active projects simultaneously without dropping follow-up items.
  • Familiarity with script tracking platforms such as Scenechronize, or similar production workflow tools, is a plus.
  • Ability to review production materials including dailies and behind-the-scenes footage with an eye toward legal clearance requirements.

Why This Role

Sony Pictures Entertainment operates one of the largest and most active production slates in the studio system, meaning this Coordinator, Script Clearance position offers direct exposure to a wide range of film and television productions under one roof in Culver City. The department works at the intersection of legal and creative production workflow, which builds a skill set that transfers across business affairs, production legal, and rights and clearances careers.
