Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $10,000/year

Flying Bark Productions is hiring a 3D Animation Lead for their studio in San Blas-Canillejas, Madrid. This role sits within the animation department and carries direct responsibility for the quality and throughput of a show’s animation output, acting as the operational link between the animation supervisor and the production team. It’s a role built for an experienced character animator who is ready to step into leadership without stepping away from the craft.

About the Role

The 3D Animation Lead works within Flying Bark Productions’ 3D pipeline across a slate that currently includes Netflix’s Ghostbusters animated series, the Stranger Things animated series, and the upcoming feature film Zac Power. Day to day, this means running dailies, managing animator assignments in coordination with the animation supervisor, and keeping the team moving through shot work while maintaining the show’s creative standards. When the supervisor isn’t available, this person holds the room.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between production and the animation supervisor, managing scheduling changes and flagging creative or technical risks before they become problems.
  • Assign and track animator workloads across the show, balancing individual strengths against production deadlines.
  • Attend and lead dailies, presenting the team’s work and coaching artists on how to frame and communicate their animation choices.
  • Work alongside technical animators to maintain accurate show wikis and ensure the team has access to correctly configured department tools throughout the episodic television production cycle.
  • Identify advances in workflow or tooling that can be carried forward into other productions and report these to the Head of Department.
  • Mentor junior animators through regular feedback, knowledge sharing, and active support of their development within the animation studio environment.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience leading or mentoring a team of animators on a production, either in episodic television or feature film production.
  • Deep working knowledge of Maya, including an understanding of rigs, animation pipelines, and data transfer between tools.
  • A solid grasp of physical motion, weight, balance, and form as applied to character animation.
  • Working knowledge of Mel or Python scripting, and familiarity with modelling and rigging processes.
  • The ability to absorb direction, adapt to production changes quickly, and keep a team steady when priorities shift.

Why This Role

Flying Bark Productions has been making family animation for over 50 years, with a current slate that spans Netflix originals and a studio partnership with Disney. This 3D Animation Lead position sits within a Madrid-based team working on productions with genuine profile, at a studio with a track record of delivering both series and feature film work to major streamers and distributors.

Apply now for the 3D Animation Lead role at Flying Bark Productions and bring your leadership and animation expertise to a studio with real productions in motion.
