Job Position(s): News Production Director
Project Type: Film & Television
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

FOX Entertainment is hiring a News Production Director at KDFW FOX 4 in Dallas, TX for an 8-week temporary assignment. This role sits in the control room, where the director calls and executes live newscasts, breaking news coverage, and special programming from within one of the top broadcast television news operations in the country. It suits an experienced live news director who knows how to read a rundown, communicate under pressure, and keep a broadcast clean when the story changes mid-air.

About the Role

KDFW FOX 4 is the ratings leader in the number four media market in the nation and is currently transitioning to a new production facility, which means this director holds down live newscast operations at the existing site while permanent staff train on new systems. Day to day, that means calling multiple live broadcasts, managing rundown timing in real time, and coordinating across producers, studio crew, and on-air talent. This is a full-time, variable-shift position covering nights, weekends, and holidays for the duration of the 8-week contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Call and execute daily live newscasts and breaking news broadcasts with clean timing and precise production cues from the control room.
  • Operate studio automation systems, video playback, and graphics platforms to maintain broadcast quality across all live programming.
  • Manage real-time rundown adjustments in NRCS software, including iNews or ENPS, as stories develop or change during air.
  • Direct camera blocking, graphic elements, and audio switches simultaneously under live broadcast conditions without error.
  • Communicate directly and decisively with producers and control room staff to keep each newscast on time and on format.
  • Maintain operational continuity across a high-volume local news workflow producing live television every broadcast day.

What You Bring

  • Three or more years of experience directing daily live newscasts in a mid-to-large television market.
  • Hands-on experience with control room automation systems, with Sony ELC experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of newsroom computer systems, specifically iNews or ENPS, in a live broadcast environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Radio-Television-Film, Communications, or equivalent professional experience in broadcast television news.
  • Availability for variable shifts across early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays through the full 8-week assignment.

Why This Role

KDFW FOX 4 is part of FOX Television Stations, which operates 29 full-power broadcast stations and produces approximately 1,300 hours of local news each week, making it one of the largest local news operations in broadcast television. This temporary assignment puts a director inside a major market station during a significant facility transition, which carries real operational weight. The pay rate for this role is $36.06 to $38.50 per hour, with the final offer dependent on experience, skills, and location.

Apply now for the News Production Director role at FOX Entertainment and keep a top-market local news operation on air.
