Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Internship
Compensation: Paid Internship

Sony is hiring a Trainee at TriStar Pictures for Spring 2027, based onsite in Culver City, California. This Development Trainee role sits inside TriStar’s feature film development operation, supporting executives as they move projects from pitch through production, post-production, and into distribution. It suits an early-career professional with a real interest in filmmaker-driven feature development and the willingness to do the ground-level work that keeps a studio slate moving.

About the Role

TriStar Pictures is a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group, with a track record that includes The Woman King, Baby Driver, and One of Them Days. As a Development Trainee, your day splits between administrative support for the executive team and substantive creative work like script coverage, research, and materials creation. The program runs January 4 or 11, 2027 through December 17, 2027, with a full-time 40-hour-per-week commitment required in person. The application deadline is October 8, 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rolling calls and scheduling meetings for development executives across the TriStar offices, handling the administrative backbone that keeps the department running.
  • Reading scripts, books, articles, and other submission materials and delivering written or verbal coverage to development executives on a timely basis.
  • Conducting deep research on potential projects and compiling informational packages that inform the team’s development decisions.
  • Building director, writer, and cast recommendation lists for projects actively moving through the feature film development pipeline.
  • Contributing to the creation of materials for TriStar projects, including decks and one sheets used in internal and external presentations.
  • Supporting office operations including supply management and meeting setup across the department as a whole.

What You Bring

  • Current undergraduate enrollment or recent graduation in a relevant field, or equivalent professional work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • A genuine focus on feature film production and development, not just a general interest in entertainment.
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Google Suite.
  • Prior experience in a production or development environment, whether through an internship, trainee program, or entry-level role.

Why This Role

TriStar Pictures has a consistent record of developing films that perform both critically and commercially, which means trainees here see how a real feature film development slate is managed from the inside. Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Emerging Talent Program is structured to deliver actual responsibilities, not busy work, with executive engagement and networking built into the program. For anyone looking to build a foundation in feature development, this is a legitimate entry point into a working studio.

Apply now for the Trainee, TriStar Pictures role at Sony Pictures Entertainment and get your application in before the October 8, 2026 deadline.
