Job Position(s): Video Editor
Project Type: Documentary
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Block by Block Creative is hiring a Video Editor based in Vancouver, BC, to join their post-production team on documentary and short-form video projects. This role sits firmly in the post-production workflow, where the editor handles everything from assembly cuts through final export across multiple platforms and aspect ratios. It suits a self-sufficient editor who is comfortable working on mission-driven content and managing a project file from ingest to delivery without a lot of hand-holding.

About the Role

Block by Block Creative produces documentary and short-form content for nonprofits, conservation organizations, and purpose-led clients, which means the edit suite is where a lot of the storytelling gets shaped. A typical day involves cutting interview selects, syncing b-roll, cleaning up dialogue tracks, and preparing deliverables in horizontal, square, and vertical formats for social and broadcast use. Light motion graphics work, including lower thirds and simple title sequences, is part of the regular rotation here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and refine short-form and long-form cuts across documentary, interview, and social clip formats within an established post-production workflow.
  • Sync multicam or double-system audio, cut interview selects, and layer b-roll to serve the story rather than just fill the timeline.
  • Apply basic color correction and audio cleanup to bring sequences to a broadcast-ready or platform-ready standard.
  • Build light motion graphics elements including lower thirds, simple title cards, and minimal animations using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Export deliverables in multiple formats and aspect ratios, managing version control and staying organized across concurrent projects.
  • Apply accessibility features to finished video products, including captions, subtitles, audio description, and ASL accommodations where required.

What You Bring

  • Professional proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, with working knowledge of After Effects for motion graphics tasks.
  • Hands-on experience cutting documentary or non-fiction content, with a clear understanding of interview-driven storytelling structure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage revisions, implement feedback efficiently, and keep multiple projects on schedule without dropping details.
  • Familiarity with multi-platform delivery, including formatting and exporting for social media and digital distribution.
  • Fluency in English is required; French, Spanish, or ASL skills are a genuine asset on this team.
  • Must be based in Canada and legally eligible to work as an employee.

Why This Role

Block by Block Creative works with clients whose projects have real-world stakes, conservation and nonprofit storytelling that depends on editorial craft to land its message. The scope here covers both short-form social content and longer documentary work, which gives an editor meaningful range without bouncing between completely unrelated genres. For an editor looking to build a non-fiction post-production reel in Vancouver with purpose-driven material, this is a practical and substantive place to do it.
