About the Role
The Freelance Web Producer, CBS Boston works inside the WBZ-TV newsroom, supporting the station’s digital platforms as part of the broader CBS News and Stations group under Paramount. Day-to-day output includes writing and publishing news articles, managing live blogs during breaking news, clipping broadcast content for digital distribution, and optimizing video for YouTube and CBSNews.com. This is a part-time, in-person position covering four days per week including weekends, and it is covered under AFTRA for News Editors and Writers at WBZ-TV.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and update web coverage of developing news stories by pulling from multiple sources while maintaining WBZ and CBS News editorial standards.
- Write and publish breaking news articles and run live blogs in real time as stories develop across the Boston market.
- Clip and optimize broadcast video segments for CBSNews.com and YouTube, writing SEO-friendly headlines and descriptions for each placement.
- Manage the CBS Boston homepage, curating and presenting the strongest journalism the station produces each day.
- Track content performance metrics and share platform insights with reporters and producers to inform story selection and digital strategy.
- Send push alerts for breaking news, weather events, and high-interest stories to keep audiences informed across digital platforms.
What You Bring
- At least one year of experience producing content in a digital breaking news environment, with a track record of publishing accurately under deadline pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, fact-driven copy and craft headlines with SEO strategy built in from the start.
- Experience clipping and publishing video for broadcast news digital distribution, including YouTube optimization.
- AFTRA eligibility or existing membership, as this role is covered by the AFTRA News Editors and Writers agreement at WBZ-TV.
- Comfort working weekends and adapting to a newsroom production schedule that shifts around the news cycle.
