Job Position(s): Lead Texture Artist - ILM London
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Disney is hiring a Lead Texture Artist at ILM London, based in London, UK. This role sits within the texturing department and is responsible for delivering photoreal hero assets for feature film and episodic VFX production, from extreme close-up digital doubles through to hard surface and creature work. It suits an experienced VFX artist who has worked at senior or lead level and is ready to own the texturing pipeline for a full show.

About the Role

The Lead Texture Artist at ILM sits at the intersection of creative and technical, setting the texturing workflow and technical strategy for their show while also producing assets themselves. Day to day, this person is communicating asset goals between artists, production, and supervision, bidding work, delegating to the team, and solving complex pipeline problems alongside Lookdev TDs, Modelers, and Groom Artists. ILM’s feature film production slate means the assets being delivered are often seen in extreme close-up, so the quality bar is consistently high.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and document the texturing workflow and technical strategy for the show, working closely with the Head of Department and VFX Supervisors to determine the right approach for complex assets.
  • Create photoreal hero assets for extreme close-up shots across digital doubles, creatures, and hard surface work, maintaining ILM’s asset presentation standards.
  • Bid, delegate, and track texture work across the team, managing show expectations and keeping production informed on scope and delivery.
  • Handle handoffs between artists and departments, translating client creative notes into clear, actionable direction for the texture team.
  • Instigate and explore workflow strategies for complex or non-standard assets, identifying solutions before they become production blockers.
  • Support team development by sharing knowledge, reviewing work at a lead level, and helping refine best practices across the VFX pipeline.

What You Bring

  • Significant production experience in VFX for film or episodic television at a Senior or Lead Texture Artist level.
  • Proven production experience with Mari as a primary texturing tool.
  • Familiarity with Katana, Nuke, and look-development workflows within a large-scale feature film or episodic VFX pipeline.
  • Experience with Substance Designer and Substance Painter is a plus.
  • Ability to work across digital doubles, creature, and hard surface asset types at a photoreal standard.
  • Familiarity with ShotGrid for production tracking is a plus.

Why This Role

ILM is one of the few VFX studios where the scope and scale of the work genuinely cannot be replicated elsewhere, and this London studio has been central to some of the most technically demanding feature film production in recent years. Leading texture on an ILM show means direct involvement in setting the standard, not just meeting it. This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of two days on-site per week at the London facility.

Apply now for the Lead Texture Artist position at ILM London and bring your feature film VFX experience to one of the industry’s most respected studios.
