Software Developer, Creature Performance (Brahma AI – A DNEG Dedicated Unit of Brahma)
- Full Time
- London, United Kingdom
DNEG
DNEG is hiring a Software Developer for Creature Performance within Brahma AI, a dedicated unit based in London, United Kingdom. This role sits inside the VFX pipeline team responsible for building and maintaining AI-driven tools that support creature animation and performance capture workflows on feature film and episodic television productions. It suits a developer with a genuine interest in how machine learning intersects with character work in post-production, and who wants to see their code directly shape what ends up on screen.
About the Role
Brahma AI operates as a dedicated unit within DNEG, focused on applying artificial intelligence to creature and character performance challenges across major VFX productions. The Software Developer for Creature Performance works alongside rigging, animation, and research teams to build tools that process motion data, improve performance retargeting, and integrate into existing post-production workflow. Day to day, this means writing production-ready code, iterating on AI model integration, and solving real pipeline problems that animators and creature TDs encounter on active shows.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop software tools that support AI-driven creature performance retargeting within the VFX pipeline.
- Integrate machine learning models into production workflow, ensuring outputs meet the quality and performance standards required for feature film delivery.
- Work directly with animation and rigging departments to understand technical requirements and translate them into reliable, maintainable software.
- Debug and optimise performance-critical code as productions move through review and final delivery cycles.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Brahma AI’s core toolset, including prototyping new approaches to motion analysis and performance capture processing.
- Document tools and processes clearly so that production technology teams can support and extend them across multiple shows.
What You Bring
- Solid experience in software development within a VFX studio, animation studio, or production technology environment.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one compiled language, with demonstrable experience applying these in a production context.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and how AI models are integrated into real post-production pipelines.
- Understanding of creature animation, motion capture, or character rigging workflows at a technical level.
- Experience working on feature film or episodic television productions where software directly serves on-screen output.
Why This Role
DNEG has credits across some of the most technically demanding productions in recent years, and Brahma AI represents a focused effort to push creature performance tooling into genuinely new territory. The Software Developer for Creature Performance role offers direct access to problems that matter to working animators and TDs, rather than research work that stays disconnected from the floor. For a developer who wants their work to be visible in finished productions, this is a practical and substantive position.
Apply now for the Software Developer, Creature Performance position at DNEG in London and bring your production technology experience to a team building the next generation of creature AI tools.
