Industrial Light and Magic is hiring a Lead Motion Editing Supervisor for its London studio, one of the most technically demanding roles in the VFX pipeline for feature film production. This position sits between the motion capture stage and final character animation, responsible for processing, cleaning, and retargeting motion data onto complex 3D rigs so that animators receive workable, production-ready performance data. About the Role

The Lead Motion Editing Supervisor operates within ILM’s motion capture and character animation departments, contributing directly to high-end VFX work across The Walt Disney Company’s feature film slate. Day-to-day, this means managing a specialist team that processes raw motion data, troubleshoots retargeting issues on character rigs, and keeps the motion editing pipeline aligned with the schedules of Mocap, Animation, Crowd, and VFX Supervisors. It is a hybrid position with a regular on-site presence required at the London facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the end-to-end motion editing workflow, from initial data ingestion off the mocap stage through to clean, rig-ready output for the animation department.
• Lead a specialist team of motion editors, setting technical standards and maintaining consistency across sequences and productions.
• Troubleshoot pipeline and tooling issues in collaboration with VFX Supervisors and technical directors to prevent bottlenecks in the post-production workflow.
• Retarget and validate motion capture data onto complex 3D character rigs, preserving performance integrity while meeting animation department requirements.
• Coordinate with Production to manage schedules, flag risks, and ensure motion editorial deliveries align with broader VFX production timelines.
• Mentor motion editing staff across global ILM studios, helping to raise technical standards and share pipeline knowledge across facilities.

What You Bring

• Several years of motion editing or mocap data processing experience on feature film productions or large-scale VFX projects.
• Proven supervisory or lead credit within a VFX studio or animation studio environment.
• Deep working knowledge of motion capture retargeting, rig structures, and the tools used to clean and process performance data at production scale.
• Familiarity with industry-standard VFX pipeline software and motion editing applications used in professional feature film production.
• Strong communication skills when working across departments including Crowd, Animation, and Production management.
