About the Role

The Video Editor & Motion Graphics Artist joins the Fire Safety Research Institute’s Digital Media Production team, a specialized unit producing research-driven video content rather than broadcast or narrative work. Day-to-day, this person manages the full post-production workflow from rough cut through final delivery, building synchronized timelines that marry raw experiment footage with animated data overlays and rendered graphics. The hybrid schedule puts you on-site in Columbia, MD on Mondays and Tuesdays, with the rest of the week remote.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit and assemble experiment visualization videos in Adobe Premiere Pro, synchronizing fire experiment footage with animated data graphs, timers, and 3D renders at frame-level accuracy.
• Build and refine motion graphics and animated data visualizations in Adobe After Effects across all stages of the post-production workflow.
• Carry projects through rough cuts, revision rounds, and final delivery, managing file output specifications for each stage.
• Work directly with producers, animators, and subject matter experts to verify that visual content accurately reflects the underlying research data.
• Maintain organized project files, media asset libraries, and production workflows to keep multiple projects moving against established deadlines.
• Translate dense technical information from fire safety research into clear, structured visual sequences suitable for educational distribution.

What You Bring

• Minimum three years of professional video editing experience with a portfolio that includes motion graphics and technical video production work.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, specifically around multi-element timeline sync and data visualization animation.
• Demonstrated experience achieving frame-level accuracy when compositing multiple visual elements within a post-production pipeline.
• Background in motion graphics design and visual design principles applied to non-narrative or documentary-style content.
• Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback from producers and non-production stakeholders without losing momentum on delivery schedules.
