Job Position(s): Unreal Engine Animation Generalist - Disney Television Animation
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Disney is hiring an Unreal Engine Animation Generalist at Disney Television Animation in Glendale, CA. This role sits at the intersection of production and technology, supporting realtime animation pipelines across DTVA’s slate of kids and family series by working directly on the box alongside creative and production teams. It suits a seasoned animation generalist who has spent a decade or more moving fluidly between disciplines in episodic animation or feature production and knows Unreal Engine pipelines from the inside out.

About the Role

Disney Television Animation has a 40-year track record producing kids and family content across 2D, CG, and stop-motion formats, and this position supports the studio’s growing investment in realtime production workflows. The Unreal Engine Animation Generalist works across multiple project stages, from development and previs through layout, animation, and final delivery, partnering with TDs, CG supervisors, and production leadership to shape how UE integrates with traditional Maya-based pipelines. Day to day, that means running animation tests, building prototype workflows, creating and revising assets across disciplines, and helping filmmakers and showrunners who are new to realtime production get up to speed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and refine Unreal Engine pipeline standards in partnership with Studio Production, Post, and Technology teams to meet the creative, schedule, and budget requirements of specific productions.
  • Perform hands-on production work across animation disciplines including layout, modeling, rigging, surfacing, lighting, cameras, and rendering within UE projects.
  • Translate creative vision into concrete pipeline options during development, running look development sessions, performance studies, and animatic-support materials directly in engine.
  • Support asset and data transfer between Unreal Engine and Maya pipelines, troubleshooting technical issues in collaboration with TDs and software teams.
  • Research and evaluate emerging realtime technologies and practices, feeding findings back into ongoing VFX pipeline improvement across the studio.
  • Document production workflows, technical standards, and delivery specifications for realtime projects, including style guides and show bibles as required.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in animation series or feature film production, preferably at a major studio.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Unreal Engine production pipelines, with broad generalist coverage across layout, editorial, rigging, surfacing, lighting, and asset management.
  • Demonstrated excellence in at least one animation discipline at a production-ready level, with the ability to execute independently under real schedule pressure.
  • Experience working across both UE and traditional CG pipelines, with working knowledge of Maya and how the two environments communicate in a production context.
  • Proven ability to mentor artists and advise filmmakers entering realtime production for the first time.

Why This Role

DTVA produces content that reaches Disney-branded audiences globally, and this position carries genuine influence over how the studio builds its realtime production infrastructure for years ahead. The scope covers everything from preschool CG series to premium animated content, which means the work is varied and the pipeline decisions made here have lasting impact. Applications submitted to this posting remain valid until December 31, 2026, and the role may be considered for any Unreal Engine Animation Generalist positions that arise within Disney Television Animation during that period.
