About the Role

The Senior Manager, Federal Tax works inside Amazon MGM Studios’ federal tax planning team, partnering directly with finance, accounting, and engineering groups to identify qualified research expenditures across the studio’s software, hardware, devices, and production technology divisions. Day to day, this person leads credit computations, reviews documentation packages ahead of IRS scrutiny, and helps shape how the team collects and processes credit data across a broad and growing production and technology slate. It is a role that combines hands-on technical work with team leadership and process development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategy and implementation of research and development tax credits, including qualified research expenditure identification, wage-based and supply-based credit computations, and four-part test analysis across the studio’s technology and production business lines.
• Analyze and document the federal tax impact of acquisitions, new business development, and changes in tax law as they affect R&D credit positions and related incentives.
• Build and maintain contemporaneous documentation packages that support credit claims and hold up to IRS review standards across multiple production and technology divisions.
• Provide technical review of R&D credit positions reflected in the company’s income tax provision and federal returns, and defend those positions directly in US income tax audits.
• Manage internal tax professionals and coordinate external advisors and credit study providers to keep credit studies accurate, current, and audit-ready.
• Drive automation and process improvements for credit data collection and reporting, including contributing to AI tools being built to identify and analyze R&D opportunities across the studio’s slate.

What You Bring

• Significant experience in federal R&D tax credit strategy, ideally within a major studio, streaming platform, or large entertainment and technology company.
• Demonstrated history of managing IRS audits and defending complex credit positions through examination.
• Hands-on experience running qualified research expenditure studies across software, hardware, or production technology groups.
• Track record of managing and developing tax professionals and coordinating with external credit study firms.
• Familiarity with adjacent federal incentives such as green energy credits is a plus.
