Job Position(s): Production Assistant, CNN Video Editorial
Project Type: Short Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Warner Bros. Discovery is hiring a Production Assistant for CNN Video Editorial, based in New York. This role sits inside CNN’s digital video team, where the work is original short-form video production across vertical and 16×9 formats for CNN’s platforms and social accounts, covering breaking news and trending stories. It suits an early-career video journalist or digital news producer who is comfortable jumping between research, scripting, and editing within a single shift.

About the Role

CNN’s Video Editorial department operates as a self-contained digital news production unit, handling everything from story pitching to final edit without handing off to a separate post team. This Production Assistant role covers the weekend shift, meaning you are often working close to the news cycle with a smaller crew and real ownership of individual pieces. A typical day moves between monitoring breaking news, pulling archival footage, writing scripts, and cutting finished videos for publication across CNN’s digital channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit finished video packages in both 16×9 and vertical formats for distribution across CNN’s digital platforms and social accounts.
  • Monitor breaking news, live events, and social and search trends to identify stories suited to short-form video production.
  • Write scripts and screen copy for digital video stories, calibrated to CNN’s audience and platform requirements.
  • Research and gather production elements including licensed photography, wire footage, and historical archival material.
  • Pitch original story ideas during editorial brainstorming sessions and contribute to decisions about format and approach.
  • Manage production workflows inside CNN’s content management systems, moving video from intake through to published output.

What You Bring

  • Up to two years of experience in digital news production or short-form video journalism.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere or comparable non-linear editing software.
  • Familiarity with vertical video formats and the editorial conventions of major social video platforms.
  • Strong script-writing skills suited to a digital news post-production workflow.
  • Availability for AM, PM, weekend, and holiday shifts on a rotational schedule.
  • Foreign language skills are a plus, given the team’s global newsgathering reach.

Why This Role

Warner Bros. Discovery’s CNN Video Editorial team is one of the larger digital video news operations in the world, and this role puts an early-career producer inside a genuine daily production workflow rather than in a support function. The weekend schedule means real responsibility on shift, with direct exposure to breaking news production and experienced digital storytellers across the organization. New York remains a central hub for broadcast and digital news production, and CNN’s scale offers career development that smaller outlets cannot match.

Apply now for the Production Assistant, CNN Video Editorial position at Warner Bros. Discovery and bring your video journalism skills to one of the most recognized names in broadcast and digital news.
