Netflix is hiring a Technical Supervisor for its Animation Studios in Sydney, Australia. This role sits at the top of the technical department on animated feature films, owning the end-to-end technical strategy from pipeline development through to final delivery. It suits an experienced CG supervisor who has led cross-functional technical teams through the full production lifecycle on large-scale animation projects.

About the Role

The Technical Supervisor sits between creative leadership and the technical department, translating the director’s vision into a coherent technical direction for Associate Technical Supervisors and TDs across every discipline. Day-to-day work spans pipeline problem-solving, department escalations, scheduling technical resources, and driving VFX pipeline improvements that feed back into the broader studio infrastructure. This is a hybrid position based out of the Sydney studio, with a minimum of three days per week on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and own the technical strategy for an animated feature film production, keeping it aligned with the creative goals established by the director and production designer.
• Act as the primary escalation point for complex cross-departmental technical issues, guiding Associate Technical Supervisors and TDs toward efficient, scalable solutions.
• Partner with Technical Project Managers and Solutions Engineering Managers to scope technical needs, identify pipeline risks, and keep development schedules on track.
• Drive pipeline development improvements at the show level while contributing to a studio-wide animation pipeline that benefits productions across all three global studio locations.
• Lead casting, mentoring, and performance feedback for Associate Technical Supervisors and TDs in close coordination with Artist Management and Learning and Development.
• Communicate technology plans and objectives clearly to production stakeholders, surfacing conflicts early and adapting technical direction as creative needs evolve.

What You Bring

• Five or more years of supervisory experience on large-scale animated features, animated television series, or VFX feature films.
• Proven track record implementing technical solutions across a full animation pipeline, with advanced knowledge of rendering workflows and pipeline development.
• Strong Python or scripting skills, plus hands-on experience with Maya, Houdini, Mari, Nuke, and production tracking software such as ShotGrid or similar.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical workstreams simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail across departments.
• A reel or portfolio showing relevant project credits in a senior technical capacity on animated feature film or episodic television productions.
