Job Position(s): Senior Texture Artist - VFX
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

ProductionBase is hiring a Senior Texture Artist for their VFX team based in London, Ontario, Canada. This role sits within the assets department of a VFX pipeline, where the focus is on building photorealistic surface textures for digital characters, environments, and props that hold up under the scrutiny of final compositing. It suits a texture artist with strong production credits and the eye to translate photographic reference and concept art into assets that serve a shot.

About the Role

The Senior Texture Artist works within the look development and asset teams, contributing to projects across feature film production and episodic television at various stages of the VFX pipeline. Day to day, this means ingesting reference photography and approved concept artwork, building texture maps across multiple channels, and delivering assets that meet supervisor sign-off before moving downstream to lighting and compositing. The role carries senior-level accountability, which means driving consistency across asset packages and supporting the broader texturing team on technical and artistic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create photorealistic textures for digital assets using photographic reference material and approved concept artwork supplied by the art department.
  • Work directly with VFX supervisors and look development leads to ensure textures meet the established aesthetic direction for each production.
  • Build and maintain texture maps across diffuse, specular, displacement, and normal channels to pipeline specification.
  • Review texture assets for consistency, fidelity, and technical compliance before handoff to the lighting department.
  • Troubleshoot texture and shading issues that arise during the shot production phase in coordination with lighters and compositors.
  • Contribute to asset documentation and naming conventions that keep the VFX pipeline organised across multiple concurrent projects.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of five years working as a texture artist within a VFX, animation studio, or post-production environment.
  • Proficiency in Mari, Substance Painter, and Photoshop as primary texturing tools.
  • Working knowledge of physically based rendering principles and how textures interact with lighting rigs in renderers such as Arnold or RenderMan.
  • Credits on feature film production or high-end episodic television at a recognised VFX facility.
  • Strong understanding of UV layout best practices and how they affect texture resolution across different asset types.

Why This Role

ProductionBase has built a reputation as a serious facility for artists who want to work on projects with real visual demands rather than volume-driven pipelines. The London, Ontario location places you in a growing production hub with access to a range of feature film and television work without the overhead of major market competition. This is a senior position with genuine scope to shape how texture work is approached across the asset department.

Apply now for the Senior Texture Artist position at ProductionBase and bring your texturing credits into a production environment that values the craft.
