Senior Photoreal Texture Artist — VFX
- Full Time
- London, England, UK
Cinesite
Cinesite is hiring a Senior Photoreal Texture Artist at their studio in London, England. This role sits within the digital assets department, where the artist is responsible for building photoreal textures that hold up under the scrutiny of feature film VFX pipelines. It suits a mid-to-senior level texture artist who has worked across multiple productions and knows how to operate with minimal supervision in a high-output environment.
About the Role
The Senior Photoreal Texture Artist works alongside VFX supervisors and the broader lookdev team to define and execute the texturing approach for digital assets across feature film productions. Day to day, this means moving between asset briefs, creative reviews, and technical problem-solving to keep textures render-ready and consistent across the show. The role lives at the intersection of artistic judgment and pipeline discipline, where decisions about color space and UV layout have direct consequences downstream.
Key Responsibilities
- Create photoreal textures for digital assets across feature film VFX production, from hero characters to environment elements, working within established lookdev and rendering standards.
- Collaborate with VFX supervisors to define the texturing approach for each asset, ensuring the work aligns with the overall creative direction of the production.
- Translate creative feedback from supervisors and clients into clear technical notes that can be tracked and implemented within the VFX pipeline.
- Optimize textures for the render pipeline, managing file formats, resolution, and color space to meet technical specifications without compromising visual quality.
- Maintain clean UV layouts and ensure assets are packaged and handed off correctly to downstream departments including lighting and compositing.
- Work within Substance tools alongside Mari and Maya to produce surface detail that reads convincingly under diverse lighting conditions and camera angles.
What You Bring
- Senior-level experience as a texture artist within a VFX studio or post-production facility, with credits on feature film productions.
- Strong proficiency in Mari and Maya as primary tools for texture creation and asset review.
- Working knowledge of Substance Painter and Substance Designer within a production context.
- Solid understanding of color space management, UV layout principles, and how texturing decisions affect the broader render pipeline.
- The ability to read and act on creative feedback accurately, with a track record of delivering assets on time across multiple concurrent shows.
