Technical Director- Ink

About the Role

The Technical Director works embedded within animated productions at Netflix’s Inkubator, supporting show-specific workflow and technical needs alongside artists from dailies through final delivery. Day to day, this means troubleshooting tools, fine-tuning models, managing the software environment, and building hybrid solutions when emerging tools fall short of a show’s creative requirements. The production pipeline is GenAI-native, so familiarity with both generative and traditional CG workflows is central to the work.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain show-specific animation production pipelines that integrate generative AI tools with established DCCs to meet creative requirements.
• Build and document custom model fine-tuning for individual productions using internal and external tooling, working with artists and craft experts to identify training data needs.
• Monitor dailies to catch artist workflow friction points and iterate on tools and processes to remove them before they compound.
• Evaluate new external tool releases against existing VFX pipeline dependencies and communicate adoption plans to artists and production leads.
• Support production tracking systems at the show level, manage data handoffs between artists and editorial, and ensure compute resources remain stable during production.
• Provide beta testing feedback to the engineering org on new internal infrastructure and integration tooling, and deliver last-mile software integration solutions as needed.

What You Bring

• Working knowledge of both commercial and open source generative and traditional CG tools, including ComfyUI and comparable platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to track and adopt new tools in a rapidly shifting generative AI landscape.
• Experience translating creative requirements from artists into practical, deployable post-production workflow solutions.
• Ability to rapidly prototype and deploy software integration solutions using modern development technologies.
• Strong communication skills that allow you to explain evolving technical concepts clearly to both artists and production leadership.
• This position may be covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
