Job Type
Lionsgate is hiring a Director, Communications & Awards to be based out of Santa Monica, CA. This role sits within the Motion Picture Group and owns the full awards campaign lifecycle, from trade media strategy and guild outreach to screener distribution and eligibility submissions across AMPAS, the Golden Globes, and critics groups. It’s the right fit for a communications professional who is already embedded in the awards season ecosystem and knows how to move a film’s industry conversation from early buzz to nomination.
About the Role
Reporting to the VP of Communications for the Motion Picture Group, this person operates at the center of awards campaign strategy and studio trade communications across the entire feature film slate. Day to day, that means managing awards consultants, building out campaign timelines, fielding trade inquiries, and coordinating materials like script books, screeners, and mailers with marketing and creative teams. The role requires someone who can work across publicity, marketing, and communications without losing sight of campaign positioning or deadline management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute awards strategies and trade communications plans for Lionsgate Motion Picture Group titles on both a seasonal and year-round basis.
- Cultivate working relationships with trade media, awards pundits, guild organizations, critics groups, and industry consultants to drive film and filmmaker visibility during awards season.
- Oversee the full awards submissions and eligibility process across AMPAS, the Golden Globes, guilds, and critics organizations, managing deadlines and requirements across multiple titles simultaneously.
- Secure industry-facing opportunities including roundtables, panels, festival appearances, and speaking engagements that elevate studio executives and filmmakers within the broader awards conversation.
- Write and develop communications materials including press releases, executive talking points, acquisition announcements, and campaign-specific copy for trade and industry audiences.
- Manage awards campaign budgets across titles, allocating spend toward high-impact opportunities and reporting on campaign performance in partnership with the VP of Communications.
What You Bring
- Several years of experience working in studio communications, awards strategy, or trade publicity within the feature film industry.
- Established relationships with trade media outlets, guild organizations, and awards consultants who are active in the current awards landscape.
- A track record of supporting or leading awards campaigns for theatrically released features through a full awards season cycle.
- Strong writing skills across formats including press releases, executive bios, and industry-facing materials.
- Comfort managing multiple campaign timelines and external stakeholders across a studio slate simultaneously.
Why This Role
Lionsgate has a consistent record of awards-contending releases and maintains a slate that spans broad commercial titles and awards-focused feature film productions. This Director, Communications & Awards position offers direct access to senior studio leadership and meaningful ownership over campaign strategy at a studio that competes seriously during awards season. The company is known for giving communications professionals real scope and decision-making authority rather than limiting them to execution alone.
Apply now for the Director, Communications & Awards role at Lionsgate and bring your awards season expertise to one of the industry’s most active independent studios.
