About the Role

This is a 3-month contract position starting before the end of June 2026, embedded within Dneg’s London studio on productions that demand the highest standard of VFX work. Day to day, you are working in Solaris to build and refine lighting setups, managing scene assembly and light rigs within a ray-tracing workflow, and iterating closely with compositing and CG supervisors to push shots to final. The work is technical and aesthetic in equal measure, requiring both a strong eye and a solid understanding of how light behaves at a physically based level.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and manage lighting scenes in Solaris, working within a USD-based VFX pipeline to ensure consistency across sequences and departments.
• Develop and refine ray-tracing lighting setups that meet the photorealistic requirements of feature film production.
• Interpret on-set reference, HDRIs, and look development materials to match real-world lighting conditions within CG environments.
• Troubleshoot render and shading issues in collaboration with the CG lighting supervisor and technical directors across the pipeline.
• Deliver shots to comp-ready standard within production schedules, maintaining quality across multiple concurrent sequences.
• Contribute to the refinement of lighting workflows and scene templates that support efficiency across the broader VFX lighting team.

What You Bring

• A minimum of 6 years of VFX lighting experience on professional productions.
• Hands-on production experience with Solaris and a USD-based lighting pipeline.
• Demonstrated credits on high-end feature film or episodic television projects at a senior level.
• Strong working knowledge of ray-tracing renderers such as Karma, RenderMan, or Arnold within a VFX post-production workflow.
• A thorough understanding of 3D computer graphics principles including shading, rendering, and scene assembly.
