Job Position(s): Videographer - Communications & Engagement / Public Affairs
Project Type: Commercial
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

The Victorian Government is hiring a Videographer for its Communications and Engagement division, based in Melbourne CBD. This role sits within the Creative and Social Media Team, where the focus is end-to-end digital video content production for government public affairs and community engagement campaigns. It suits a camera operator and editor who has moved comfortably between production and post on non-broadcast content and understands how to shape a message for digital distribution.

About the Role

The position operates inside a communications department rather than a traditional broadcast or film production environment, which means the output is driven by public affairs objectives and digital content workflow rather than a scripted production slate. Day to day, this Videographer will move between pre-production planning, location shooting, and editing, turning briefs from internal stakeholders into finished video assets ready for web and social platforms. The Victorian Government produces a consistent volume of content across departments, so the workload is steady and the subject matter spans community services, policy announcements, and public engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shoot and produce high quality digital video content for social media and public affairs communications, handling camera operation, lighting, and sound on location.
  • Manage the full post-production workflow from ingesting footage through to colour correction, audio mix, and export for multiple digital formats.
  • Develop and refine video concepts during pre-production in response to briefs from the Communications and Engagement team.
  • Maintain and operate production equipment including cameras, lighting rigs, and audio capture gear to broadcast-adjacent standards.
  • Edit sequences using industry-standard non-linear editing software to deliver polished, on-brand content within tight turnaround schedules.
  • Review and quality-check finished content against accessibility and government communications standards before delivery.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience as a videographer or video producer across digital content production, corporate video, or government communications.
  • Proficiency in non-linear editing platforms such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, with working knowledge of After Effects for motion graphics.
  • A production reel or credited body of work showing self-shooting and edited deliverables across multiple formats.
  • Solid understanding of digital video compression, aspect ratios, and platform-specific delivery specifications for social media channels.
  • Ability to manage individual projects from brief through to delivery without a dedicated production support crew.

Why This Role

The Victorian Government offers genuine employment stability and access to a broad range of content subjects that keep the work varied across a long tenure. For a Videographer looking to build a substantial body of digital content production work within a structured organisation, this role provides consistent briefs, real resources, and a team context rather than freelance isolation.

Apply now for the Videographer role with the Victorian Government and bring your digital content production skills to public affairs communications in Melbourne.
