Paramount is hiring a Photographer for its CBS News and Stations operation based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a field and studio photojournalism role sitting inside a working newsroom, where the output is broadcast-ready news and sports video packages delivered daily across newscasts. It suits a working photojournalist with ENG experience who wants to sharpen their storytelling craft at a major market news operation without stepping in front of the camera.

About the Role

This position sits within the CBS News and Stations division and operates on a hybrid model, splitting time between solo multimedia journalist work producing NAT PKG format stories and field crew work alongside on-air reporters. A typical day runs from assignment pitch through field acquisition, lighting and audio setup, and non-linear edit delivery under newscast deadline. This is a strong landing spot for a current on-air MSJ who wants to concentrate specifically on photojournalism and visual storytelling within broadcast news production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shoot assigned news and sports stories using broadcast ENG cameras, applying creative and accurate visual journalism standards to every package.
  • Set up field lighting and audio rigs appropriate to each shooting situation, from press conferences to breaking news environments.
  • Edit daily news stories under hard newscast deadlines using non-linear editing systems including Edius, FCP X, Avid, or comparable platforms.
  • Operate ENG news vans and station vehicles to field assignments, logging all maintenance issues with the appropriate supervisor.
  • Pitch and produce self-contained stories in an MSJ workflow, handling all elements from interview through final edit without a reporter in the field.
  • Maintain assigned broadcast equipment in working order and uphold journalistic and ethical standards consistent with Paramount company policy.

What You Bring

  • One to two years of experience pitching, shooting, writing, editing, and delivering video stories on deadline in a broadcast news environment.
  • Operating proficiency with Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P-2, or comparable ENG camera systems.
  • Hands-on experience with non-linear editing on Edius, FCP X, Avid, or a similar NLE platform used in broadcast news post-production workflow.
  • Ability to carry, shoulder, and operate a broadcast ENG camera at 25 pounds or more, along with support gear including tripod and lighting equipment.
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license, or ability to obtain one.
  • NABET-CWA union membership is required for this position. Candidates not currently members will need to join upon hire. NPPA-style shooting experience is a plus.

Why This Role

Paramount’s CBS News and Stations group is one of the largest local broadcast news operations in the country, with production infrastructure and resources that smaller market stations simply do not have. Working in Minneapolis puts you inside a competitive major market newsroom where the volume and variety of assignments builds a real photojournalist’s reel quickly. A demo reel link is required as part of the application.

Apply now for the Photographer role at Paramount and bring your broadcast news photojournalism work to one of the most recognized names in television.
