Job Position(s): Mid Rigging Artist - UNDISCLOSED PROJECT - Expression of Interest
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Rodeo FX is accepting expressions of interest for a Mid Rigging Artist based in Montreal, Canada, ahead of anticipated openings in the coming weeks. This role sits within the rigging department and is focused on delivering full character rigs, both body and facial, that meet the technical and artistic requirements of feature film or high-end VFX production. It suits a mid-level rigging professional who understands how rig performance directly affects animation efficiency downstream.

About the Role

The Mid Rigging Artist works under the Character Supervisor and Rigging Lead within Rodeo FX’s VFX pipeline, contributing rigs for production assets across the full scope of a project. Day-to-day work involves building and refining character rigs that animators can actually use at speed, which means thinking about usability and technical performance in equal measure. This is not a generalist position, it requires someone who can own a rig from initial build through to production-ready delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build full character rigs, including body and facial systems, that align with the visual tone and technical specifications established for the production.
  • Work directly with the animation team to identify production needs and ensure rigs perform efficiently within the VFX pipeline.
  • Collaborate with the Rigging Lead and Supervisor to design animation rigs that reflect the stylistic direction of the film.
  • Propose and implement modifications to existing rig modules within the pipeline under lead-level supervision.
  • Contribute technical and visual solutions to production problems as they arise across the character rigging workflow.
  • Manage multiple assets while maintaining quality standards and meeting production deadlines across a feature film schedule.

What You Bring

  • Mid-level experience in character rigging for feature film production, episodic television, or VFX at a studio level.
  • Proficiency in Maya and working knowledge of rigging tools and scripting languages used in professional VFX pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build both body and facial rigs that meet animator feedback and production requirements.
  • Familiarity with modular rigging systems and the ability to adapt or extend existing pipeline components.
  • A credit history that reflects hands-on work in a structured, supervisor-led production environment.

Why This Role

Rodeo FX has a strong track record across feature film and episodic VFX work, with a studio presence in Montreal that draws serious rigging talent from across the industry. This expression of interest is a direct pipeline into positions the studio expects to open shortly, which means applicants who move now are positioned ahead of a formal search. The rigging department here works within a structured production workflow that gives mid-level artists real room to develop technically.
