Job Position(s): VFX 3D Character & Hard-Surface Modeler
Project Type: VFX Production
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Notodoanimacion is hiring a VFX 3D Character & Hard-Surface Modeler based in London, England. This role sits within the VFX pipeline and focuses on building production-ready 3D characters, creatures, and hard-surface assets that go directly into the hands of rigging, lookdev, and compositing teams. It suits a modeler with a solid track record across VFX production who is equally comfortable sculpting organic forms and engineering precise mechanical or architectural assets.

About the Role

The modeler works within a multidisciplinary VFX team, contributing assets across what appears to be an active production slate that spans character-driven and effects-heavy work. Day to day, this means taking briefs from art direction and translating them into clean, optimised geometry that holds up under the scrutiny of a full VFX pipeline. Procedural workflows are part of the expected toolkit here, not an afterthought.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build high-resolution and game-resolution 3D character and creature models that meet VFX pipeline specifications for rigging and animation handoff.
  • Design and construct hard-surface assets including vehicles, props, and environmental elements with technically sound topology and edge flow.
  • Sculpt detailed organic surfaces in ZBrush, producing displacement and normal map-ready geometry for use in lookdev and lighting.
  • Maintain consistent naming conventions, mesh organisation, and file hygiene across all deliverables to support a clean post-production workflow.
  • Interpret concept art and production design references accurately, flagging technical or creative conflicts early in the modelling phase.
  • Work within procedural modelling workflows where required, adapting to production schedules and revision cycles without compromising mesh quality.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience as a 3D modeler within a VFX production environment, with credits on film, television, or animation projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Maya for production modelling and ZBrush for high-resolution sculpting.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver both character and hard-surface work across different production scales.
  • Familiarity with procedural modelling tools and an understanding of how geometry decisions affect downstream departments.
  • A portfolio that shows range across organic and mechanical asset types, grounded in real production output.

Why This Role

Notodoanimacion brings a cross-disciplinary approach to its productions, which means modelers here tend to see their work carry through more of the pipeline than at larger facilities where roles are more siloed. Working from London puts you inside one of the most active VFX production hubs in the world, with access to a team that values both artistic craft and technical problem-solving in equal measure.

Apply now for the VFX 3D Character & Hard-Surface Modeler position at Notodoanimacion and put your reel in front of a team that will actually look at it.
