Vancouver Actors Guide
Vancouver Actors Guide is seeking talent for The Session, a festival-bound short film shooting in Vancouver, BC. This is an acting role within a narrative film production, with performers contributing on-screen work across in-person callback days and a self-tape audition process. The role suits early-career or emerging screen actors looking to build credits through independent short film production.
About the Role
The Session is a short film project being developed for festival submission, and actors are being cast across multiple characters within the production. The audition process moves from self-tape to in-person callbacks held at the Vancouver Film School, giving actors a structured path through the casting pipeline. There are no stunts and no nudity in any scenes, and the production is organized through a formal callback system with direct communication from the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit a self-tape audition using the sides provided by the production team upon initial contact.
- Attend in-person callbacks at the Vancouver Film School if selected to advance through the casting process.
- Bring fully realized character work to each stage of the audition, consistent with the tone and needs of a festival-circuit short film.
- Collaborate with the director and casting team during callbacks to explore the role and respond to direction in the room.
- Commit to the production schedule and on-set performance requirements once cast in the project.
- Maintain professional set conduct appropriate to a short film production intended for festival submission.
What You Bring
- Experience self-taping for short film or independent productions, with a working home setup or access to one.
- Comfort working in a low-budget independent film environment with a small crew.
- No union affiliation is required for this production.
- Ability to take direction and adapt performance choices quickly during in-person callbacks.
- Prior short film or student film credits are an asset, though not required.
Why This Role
Vancouver Actors Guide has been a long-standing free resource for the Vancouver acting community, and this production reflects its ongoing support for local screen talent. The Session offers a screen credit on a project built for the festival circuit, with a structured audition process that mirrors professional industry standards. Actors will receive $10 per day toward catering costs.
