Warner Bros. Discovery is hiring a Senior Animator at WB Games Montreal, located at 888 boul. De Maisonneuve Est in Montreal. This role sits within the animation department and is responsible for producing high-quality character animation for both real-time gameplay and in-engine cinematics across AAA game titles built on major WB intellectual properties. It suits an experienced games animator who is equally comfortable in keyframe work and motion capture pipelines, and who has shipped a full production cycle on at least one AAA title.
About the Role
The Senior Animator works directly under animation leadership inside a studio with an established AAA game development pipeline, contributing to character performance, gameplay prototyping, and cinematic storytelling. Day-to-day work moves between Maya, MotionBuilder, and Unreal Engine 5, with regular touchpoints across character modeling, technical animation, design, and programming. This is a hands-on content creation role, not a supervisory one, though mentorship of junior animators is part of the expectation.
Key Responsibilities
- Animate characters for real-time gameplay and cinematics using both keyframe animation and motion capture data within an established AAA animation pipeline.
- Prototype new gameplay mechanics in collaboration with design and programming teams, helping define how character movement feels in-engine.
- Review and revise animation content directly inside the game engine, ensuring deliverables meet technical budgets and production schedules.
- Identify and resolve animation bugs, providing technical troubleshooting support across the animation system.
- Participate in department reviews, contributing notes on the look and feel of on-screen content and helping shape animation direction.
- Support R&D efforts around tooling improvements and evaluation of new animation technologies as they apply to the production workflow.
What You Bring
- More than 5 years of experience in video game development, including at least one shipped AAA title.
- Proficiency in Maya and MotionBuilder, with hands-on experience supporting a motion capture pipeline end-to-end.
- Experience with Unreal Engine 5 is strongly preferred.
- Solid foundation in body mechanics, posing, timing, and a working knowledge of facial animation and performance.
- A portfolio, demo reel, or animation website is required for consideration.
