Netflix
Category
Job Type
Netflix is hiring an Associate, Sound Technology for its Production Technology team based in Tokyo, Japan. This role sits at the intersection of production sound and post-production workflow, supporting Netflix original series and films shot in Japan from capture through final audio delivery. It suits an experienced sound professional who knows the Japanese film and television sound ecosystem from the inside and is ready to grow into a regional technical leadership position.
About the Role
The Production Technology team works directly with productions, sound crews, post facilities, and internal stakeholders to set technical requirements, consult on workflows, and maintain audio quality and consistency across Netflix originals. In Japan, this Associate, Sound Technology role is the local coordination point between Japanese sound recordists, mixers, post houses, and dubbing vendors on one side, and Netflix’s global sound specifications on the other. A typical day might involve triaging a production inquiry about deliverable formats, sitting in on a mix review, or documenting a local workflow practice that surfaces a broader regional challenge.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Netflix productions in Japan with day-to-day technical sound guidance, working under the mentorship of senior Sound Technology Managers across the APAC region.
- Serve as the local coordination point with Japanese sound recordists, sound supervisors, dialogue editors, re-recording mixers, and dubbing vendors on episodic television and feature film productions.
- Communicate and clarify Netflix audio specifications and deliverable requirements to local production and post-production partners in practical, crew-facing terms.
- Observe and document local production sound practices and post-production workflows, identifying challenges and opportunities specific to the Japanese market.
- Support onboarding of vendors and production teams on evolving audio workflows, including near-field and theatrical mixing considerations relevant to Netflix deliverables.
- Contribute to internal documentation, regional workflow notes, and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the Japanese sound community and across Netflix’s broader production technology work.
What You Bring
- At least five years of professional experience in film or television sound in a technical or hands-on capacity, across production sound or post-production workflow.
- Solid working knowledge of how Japanese film and TV productions structure their sound departments and engage with post facilities.
- Practical experience working alongside sound teams across production and post, with familiarity in audio formats, delivery specs, and consumer playback technologies.
- Comfort coordinating between productions, sound vendors, and internal stakeholders, and translating technical requirements into clear, actionable guidance for crews.
- Professional fluency in Japanese, with enough English to work across Netflix’s global production technology teams.
Why This Role
Netflix is producing a growing slate of original content in Japan across series, features, and unscripted formats, and this team sits close enough to production to influence how that content actually sounds. The Associate, Sound Technology role offers direct access to senior technologists and a clear path toward deeper regional authority as Netflix’s Japan originals slate continues to scale. It is a rare staff position in sound technology that is genuinely grounded in production realities rather than removed from them.
Apply now for the Associate, Sound Technology position at Netflix in Tokyo, Japan, and bring your production sound experience into one of the most consequential roles in the region’s film and television industry.
