About the Role

The WABC Executive Director of Broadcast Technology leads the engineering team supporting daily local news broadcasts, studio production, and nationally syndicated programming including Live with Kelly and Mark. The role sits inside a multiplatform broadcast operation and requires close coordination with News, Production, IT, and Digital leadership to keep technical workflows aligned with editorial output. A typical day involves overseeing system performance, managing escalations, and driving infrastructure planning alongside corporate engineering and vendor partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all broadcast engineering operations including live news production, control room systems, transmission, and content distribution supporting WABC’s daily on-air schedule.
• Manage lifecycle planning and performance maintenance for newsroom technology, editing platforms, media asset management systems, and production infrastructure.
• Lead technical execution for system upgrades and IP-based broadcast infrastructure improvements across station operations.
• Direct engineering and broadcast technology teams through staffing, scheduling, performance management, and ongoing professional development.
• Serve as the station’s lead technical contact during breaking news events, major live productions, and critical on-air emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, cybersecurity protocols, company standards, and broadcast operations best practices.

What You Bring

• Minimum seven years of progressive experience in broadcast engineering, media technology, or technical operations leadership.
• Minimum three years of direct people management experience leading engineering or broadcast technology teams.
• Hands-on knowledge of live production environments, newsroom workflows, transmission systems, and content delivery platforms.
• Experience supporting cloud-based workflows, automation systems, and IP-based broadcast infrastructure in a working broadcast facility.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing operational priorities under tight deadlines in a live television environment.
