**Contract Position**

Role Summary

We’re seeking a Game Composer & Audio Designer to define and execute the full musical identity of Zoo Dojo. You will compose original music, design impactful sound effects, and establish the audio direction that supports gameplay, emotion, and charm.

As the primary audio owner within a small indie team, you’ll shape how the game feels moment-to-moment — from combat intensity and player abilities to environmental ambience and UI feedback. This is a leadership-level creative role with high ownership and long-term influence on the studio’s first title.

Responsibilities

  • Compose original soundtrack themes (combat, exploration, boss encounters, progression, menus).
  • Design and produce high-quality SFX (abilities, movement, UI, enemies, environmental sounds).
  • Establish and maintain a cohesive audio style aligned with the game’s visual direction and tone.
  • Create loopable, adaptive music suitable for roguelite gameplay.
  • Implement audio assets into Unreal Engine 5 (or collaborate closely with the developer for integration).
  • Define audio workflows, file organization standards, and production pipelines.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, animators, and leadership to reinforce game feel and pacing.
  • Iterate quickly based on playtesting feedback and production milestones.

Requirements

  • 5–10 hours per week availability.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing original music composition and sound design work.
  • Ability to produce polished, game-ready audio assets.
  • Understanding of how audio enhances player feedback, combat clarity, and emotional tone.
  • Self-motivated with strong communication skills in a remote team environment.
  • Ability to take ownership of a discipline within a small, fast-moving studio.

Bonus Points

  • Experience implementing audio in UE5.
  • Familiarity with FMOD or Wwise middleware.
  • Experience with roguelites, action platformers, or stylized games.
  • Background in interactive or adaptive music systems.
  • Interest in traditional East Asian inspired music, martial arts, roguelite systems, or stylized action themes.

Compensation & Terms

  • This is a volunteer position (no salary).
  • Includes a revenue bonus contract for Zoo Dojo.
  • Role includes a signed agreement for clarity and fairness.
  • Listed as Game Audio Designer & Composer in credits.
  • Future opportunity for equity or paid leadership roles as the studio grows.

Full terms will be outlined in a Volunteer Contractor Agreement, which includes conditions for active involvement and royalty eligibility.
