Job Position(s): VFX Artist
Project Type: VFX Production
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $150,000/year

Success Matcher is hiring a VFX Artist based onsite in San Francisco, CA. This role sits at the center of the company’s real-time game art pipeline, owning the design and animation of pack-opening and reward reveal sequences across 50 or more themed digital collectible drops. It suits a mid-to-senior VFX professional with a mobile game art background who is ready to build a VFX pipeline from the ground up rather than inherit someone else’s.

About the Role

You will be the first dedicated game artist at this company, which means the VFX standards, art pipelines, and production workflows are yours to define. Day to day, you are authoring real-time visual effects in Unity, designing the anticipation and payoff sequences that drive the core user experience on a live digital collectibles platform. This is an individual contributor position with a direct path into a lead role once the team scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and animate high-impact pack-opening sequences, building the escalation and payoff rhythms that define the platform’s core reward experience.
  • Establish VFX production standards and art pipeline workflows from the ground up as the company’s founding VFX Artist.
  • Author real-time mobile visual effects across 50 or more unique themes and seasonal drops, maintaining visual consistency at scale.
  • Own creative direction for in-game VFX without design-by-committee oversight, making final calls on look, timing, and execution.
  • Ship initial key animations and establish production processes within the first 90 to 180 days on the job.
  • Hire and mentor future VFX artists as the company grows, transitioning into a player-coach lead position.

What You Bring

  • A portfolio on ArtStation or equivalent showing real-time mobile VFX, reward reveals, and demonstrable game feel.
  • Deep proficiency in Unity, with Cocos Creator experience considered a strong advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with Houdini, Blender, and Photoshop as part of your standard VFX toolchain.
  • A background in mobile-first game art, ideally with studio credits from Supercell, Niantic, Gameloft, or a comparable mobile game developer.
  • Comfort operating as a senior individual contributor while actively building toward a leadership track.

Why This Role

Success Matcher’s client has raised over $65 million in venture capital and is growing at more than 10x year over year, which puts this VFX Artist in an early position at a company with real momentum and real resources. Compensation is $150,000 to $225,000 base salary plus competitive equity, reflecting both the seniority of the work and the founding-team nature of the hire. Success Matcher is placing someone here who wants ownership of a VFX pipeline, not a seat inside one.
