Technical Director II – Disney Television Animation
- Full Time
- Glendale, CA, USA
Disney
Disney is hiring a Technical Director II for Disney Television Animation in Glendale, CA. This role sits inside the Digital Production department, where TDs are responsible for executing shot work across 2D and CG animation pipelines, from retakes on incoming international partner shots to delivering final domestic source masters to broadcast and streaming. It suits a production-tested animator or compositor who is equally comfortable in ToonBoom Harmony and a CG environment and knows how to balance technical problem-solving with an informed artistic eye.
About the Role
Disney Television Animation has spent over 40 years producing kids and family content spanning traditional 2D, rig-based 2D, CG preschool, CG premium, and stop-motion series. The Technical Director II works alongside Senior TDs, creative leadership, and production staff to support episodic television pipelines across multiple formats. Day-to-day work includes fixing shots at any stage of the pipeline, adjusting color and lighting, re-animating where needed, and supporting tool development to keep the workflow moving efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute retakes and originate shots from scratch within the 2D animation pipeline, including compositing, timing adjustments, and effects work in ToonBoom Harmony.
- Diagnose and repair complex shots delivered by international animation partners, applying both technical corrections and artistic judgment to meet series standards.
- Facilitate the creation and delivery of final domestic source master materials to broadcast and streaming business units.
- Support CG productions through shot and asset troubleshooting, lighting and rendering input, and research and development as needed.
- Ingest incoming shot data for editorial and provide technical support for subcontractors and other groups within the Walt Disney Company specific to the assigned production pipeline.
- Identify and recommend tools or pipeline improvements that increase efficiency across the VFX pipeline and digital production workflow.
What You Bring
- Minimum 3 years of experience in animation production across 2D or CG episodic television formats.
- Expert-level knowledge of ToonBoom Harmony, including file structure, scene creation, importing, and compositing.
- Working knowledge of CG production disciplines including modeling, surfacing, rigging, lighting, rendering, and compositing.
- Proficiency in Photoshop, with familiarity in tools such as Maya, Nuke, After Effects, Houdini, Blender, or Redshift considered a strong asset.
- Python, MEL, and Unix shell scripting experience preferred for CG series assignments.
Why This Role
Disney Television Animation is one of the few animation studios producing across five distinct production formats simultaneously, which means a Technical Director II here gains exposure to a wider range of pipelines than most comparable roles in the industry. Applications submitted to this posting remain valid until December 31, 2026, and may be considered for any TD II positions that arise during that period. This is a studio with genuine production volume and a track record that carries weight on any animation credit list.
Apply now for the Technical Director II position at Disney Television Animation and bring your animation pipeline experience to one of the most established studios in kids and family content.
