About the Role

The Story Artist joins Netflix’s Inkubator, a team developing animated short-form and special content using hybrid workflows that blend conventional storyboarding with generative AI imagery and video tools. Day to day, this person moves between thumbnail sketches and finished panels, pitches boards to creative leadership, and actively shapes the production workflow alongside the creative team. The work is sprint-based, requiring someone who can absorb notes quickly and maintain story consistency across a production that is iterating in real time.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate scripts and verbal story direction into storyboard panels that address staging, camera language, character acting, and editorial pacing across animated production.
• Pitch completed boards to story and creative leadership, incorporating feedback to maintain consistency with the established visual and narrative direction.
• Work within and help define hybrid animation workflows that combine 2D drawing, CG animation principles, traditional renders, and generative AI imagery.
• Contribute story development by brainstorming beats, action sequences, and dialogue adjustments that strengthen comedic or dramatic storytelling.
• Build templates, scripts, and workflow documentation to support a production pipeline that evolves alongside the creative process.
• Drive look development by experimenting with approaches that integrate generative imagery into the broader animation production pipeline.

What You Bring

• Four or more years of storyboarding experience in animation, games, or digital media, covering feature, episodic, or high-end short-form production.
• A portfolio demonstrating cinematic composition, graphic storytelling, character development, and editorial pacing in animated work.
• Advanced proficiency with digital drawing tools used in professional storyboard production workflows.
• Hands-on experience exploring generative AI tools, with a genuine interest in applying them to animation storytelling.
• Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous production environments where pipelines are being built and revised concurrently with active development.
