Job Position(s): Software Developer – Layout, Animation, Matchmove, Previs 3 Locations
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

DNEG is hiring a Software Developer specializing in Layout, Animation, Matchmove, and Previs across three India-based offices in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Chennai. This role sits within Production Technology and Software Product Development, building and maintaining the pipeline tools that keep Layout, Animation, Matchmove, and Previs departments moving on feature film and episodic VFX productions. It suits a developer who understands how VFX pipelines actually function on a shot level, not just in theory.

About the Role

You will be embedded in DNEG’s Production Technology group, writing software that directly supports the artists handling camera layout, character animation, matchmove tracking, and previs across major studio productions. Day to day, this means diagnosing pipeline bottlenecks, shipping new tooling in response to production requests, and maintaining existing systems as shows move through post-production workflow. The work is grounded in what artists need at the shot level, so fluency in how these departments operate is a genuine requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain software tools that support Layout, Animation, Matchmove, and Previs pipelines across active feature film and episodic productions.
  • Work directly with department supervisors and technical directors to translate production requirements into reliable, maintainable code.
  • Develop and extend USD, Alembic, or proprietary scene description workflows used across the animation and layout pipeline.
  • Write Python and C++ tooling that integrates with DCCs including Maya, Houdini, and Nuke, ensuring compatibility across the VFX pipeline.
  • Triage and resolve shot-blocking technical issues raised by Matchmove and Previs artists during active production schedules.
  • Document software systems clearly enough that other developers and TDs can build on your work without losing time chasing context.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience developing production tools for a VFX studio, animation studio, or post-production facility.
  • Strong Python skills with working knowledge of C++ in a DCC or pipeline context.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Maya’s API, rigging systems, or camera and layout toolsets.
  • Understanding of matchmove or previs workflows, including how tracking data moves through a VFX pipeline into animation and compositing.
  • Experience working to production deadlines where software failures have a direct impact on artist output and delivery schedules.

Why This Role

DNEG is one of a small number of facilities with the production volume to give a pipeline developer exposure to multiple departments, multiple shows, and genuinely complex technical problems across all three locations. The three-location structure means you are building tools used at scale, not maintaining a single-show workaround. For a developer who wants to grow inside a serious VFX pipeline environment, this is a substantive position.

Apply now for the Software Developer, Layout, Animation, Matchmove, and Previs role at DNEG and put your pipeline work in front of productions that reach global audiences.
