The Senior Software Developer role at DNEG sits inside a team that keeps the VFX pipeline functional at scale, writing tools that artists in departments like rigging, animation, and effects depend on daily. A typical day involves writing, reviewing, and debugging code tied directly to Maya workflows, working alongside TDs and production technologists to solve real pipeline problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop Maya plugins and pipeline tools using Python and C++ to support VFX production workflow across multiple active projects.
• Work with technical directors to identify bottlenecks in the animation and rigging pipeline and build software solutions that address them at a production scale.
• Maintain and improve existing codebase used by artists across DNEG’s global studio network, ensuring stability during active production cycles.
• Collaborate with department leads in effects, animation, and lighting to gather technical requirements and translate them into software specifications.
• Write and maintain technical documentation for tools deployed across the VFX pipeline so that TDs and production teams can onboard quickly.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to software development standards within the Production Technology department.

What You Bring

• Minimum five years of software development experience within a VFX studio, animation studio, or film production technology environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Maya’s Python API and C++ SDK, with shipped tools in a production context.
• Experience developing for Linux-based pipeline environments common across post-production facilities.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and with software deployment in a multi-site studio context.
• Credits on feature film or episodic television productions are a strong advantage.
