This role sits within the character technical department and is responsible for building animation rigs for characters, creatures, props, and vehicles across animated feature film production. It suits an experienced Character TD who is equally comfortable solving complex technical problems and delivering rigs that hold up under the demands of a high-volume animation pipeline.

About the Role

The Senior Rigger at DNEG works within a rigging team that supports animated feature films and episodic content, including projects like The Garfield Movie, Nimona, and Entergalactic. Day to day, you are building and refining rigs in Maya, working closely with Rigging Supervisors and Animation Leads to ensure your solutions serve the animators and hold up at scale. The VFX pipeline here handles a wide range of rig types, from organic creature builds to mechanical and facial systems, so the scope is genuinely broad.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain character, creature, prop, and vehicle rigs in Maya to the standard required for animated feature film production.
• Develop facial, body, and mechanical rig solutions appropriate to each show’s specific style and technical requirements.
• Implement proprietary tools and scripting solutions to improve rigging workflows and address pipeline-specific challenges.
• Apply a thorough understanding of human and animal anatomy to ensure rigs deform and move convincingly within the animation pipeline.
• Write basic Python scripts to automate tasks and support the wider character TD workflow.
• Work directly with Animation Supervisors to identify rigging limitations early and deliver solutions that serve production schedules.

What You Bring

• Proven credits on creature or character-heavy productions at a senior level, ideally within animated feature film or episodic animation.
• Full working knowledge of Maya across body, facial, and mechanical rigging disciplines.
• Strong grasp of linear algebra and its practical application to character rigging.
• Proficiency in Python scripting, with C++ knowledge considered a genuine plus.
• Familiarity with post-production workflow in a character-heavy pipeline environment.
