About the Role

The Senior Editor, Business sits within CNN’s EMEA newsdesk and operates as a critical link between the network’s APAC and US operations, effectively setting up the morning agenda for CNN’s US audience. Day to day, this means commissioning and editing enterprise journalism, advancing overnight stories, and overseeing coverage across CNN’s multiplatform digital output. The role carries direct management responsibility for at least one business reporter on the EMEA desk.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the business news agenda during EMEA hours, overseeing editorial output across breaking news, analysis, and enterprise journalism in digital text, video, and visual formats.
• Commission, frame, and edit stories covering business, markets, technology, media, and economic affairs with a consistent eye on emerging regional trends.
• Advance overnight stories and ensure essential business coverage is live and ready for CNN’s US audience at the start of the morning news cycle.
• Collaborate with correspondents and editors across multiple regions on cross-platform projects, maintaining CNN’s editorial standards and journalistic integrity throughout.
• Manage at least one reporter on the EMEA newsdesk, providing editorial direction and supporting their development within a 24/7 digital news workflow.
• Experiment with storytelling formats to serve CNN’s multiplatform audience, including digital-first coverage planning across text, video, and data-driven visual journalism.

What You Bring

• A minimum of eight years of business news editing or writing experience at leading digital-first news outlets, with a proven record in high-pressure breaking news environments.
• Demonstrable experience conceiving and producing distinctive enterprise journalism, including investigative work and unique reporting angles for a global audience.
• Superior news judgment with the ability to think in headlines and translate complex economic and market stories for the US morning news audience.
• Exceptional planning skills and a track record of executing detailed digital-first coverage plans across multiple platforms simultaneously.
• Perfect command of written and spoken English, with an obsession for precision in both editing and publication-ready copy.
