Senior Creature FX TD

Framestore is hiring a Senior Creature FX TD based in Melbourne, Australia. This role sits within the Creature FX department and is responsible for delivering dynamic simulations, including cloth, hair, muscle and skin, through to the Lighting department as finished assets. It suits an experienced CFX artist who knows their way around a full creature pipeline and is comfortable owning shot work from rig build to final delivery.

About the Role

The Creature FX department at Framestore works across feature film production and episodic television, building and executing simulation rigs for characters and creatures across a range of high-profile projects. Day to day, a Senior Creature FX TD is building nCloth and proprietary simulation setups in Maya, running shots, and keeping close contact with Modeling, Rigging, Animation and Lighting to make sure assets move through the VFX pipeline cleanly. At the senior level, you are also expected to contribute to the development of departmental tools and techniques alongside the day-to-day shot load.

Key Responsibilities

• Build simulation rigs for characters and creatures in Maya using nCloth and Framestore proprietary tools, covering cloth, hair, muscle and skin setups.
• Execute shots using those simulation rigs and deliver finished assets to the Lighting department within the established VFX pipeline.
• Liaise with Modeling, Rigging, Animation and Lighting to manage creature workflow across departments and catch issues before they reach downstream.
• Contribute to the research and development of new departmental tools and simulation techniques as part of an ongoing commitment to raising the bar on creature work.
• Meet scheduled deadlines consistently while maintaining the quality standard expected of a multi Oscar-winning studio.
• Communicate regularly with Production and Leads on shot progress, flagging schedule risks early and keeping your pipeline status current.

What You Bring

• Solid professional experience as a Creature FX TD, with credits on feature film or high-end episodic television work.
• Strong working knowledge of Maya, nCloth and at least one additional simulation framework used in a production environment.
• Demonstrated ability to build and execute simulation rigs for both hero characters and background creatures at a senior level.
• Experience working across a full creature workflow, including handoffs to and from Rigging, Animation and Lighting.
• Comfortable contributing to tool development, with some scripting knowledge relevant to CFX workflows considered an asset.
