Job Type
FOX Entertainment is hiring a Research Producer to join the TMZ News Desk in Los Angeles, California. This role sits at the center of broadcast news verification, supporting three live and taped television shows while fact-checking and developing stories for the web. It suits a working journalist with a sharp research background who knows how to move quickly on breaking celebrity and pop culture news without sacrificing accuracy.
About the Role
The Research Producer works directly within TMZ’s News Desk, the editorial engine behind TMZ on TV, TMZ Live, and TMZ Sports. Day to day, this person is in the mix on breaking news television production, pulling sourced information, flagging context producers may have missed, and keeping story facts clean across both broadcast and digital outputs. This is not a background role, the expectation is that you speak up and contribute without being prompted.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit, maintain, and fact-check stories published to the TMZ website, ensuring accuracy before and after posts go live.
- Support the News Desk during breaking news coverage, providing sourced research quickly enough to keep pace with episodic television production schedules.
- Monitor all three TMZ television shows and flag factual errors or missing context in real time.
- Track breaking news across multiple platforms and brief producers on relevant stories developing nationally and internationally.
- Work alongside Writers and Producers to strengthen the depth and sourcing of each story across broadcast news and digital formats.
- Apply working knowledge of SEO practices to web content, using tools including LexisNexis and Google search to support story development.
What You Bring
- Three to five years of professional experience in news research, journalism, or a related field, with a degree in Journalism or Communications considered a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of pop culture news history and the ability to apply that context quickly under deadline pressure.
- Proficiency with LexisNexis, CMS platforms, Microsoft Office, and social media monitoring tools.
- Strong spelling, grammar, and editorial judgment, with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects at once.
- Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as required by a live television production workflow.
Why This Role
TMZ operates as an in-house studio within FOX Entertainment, a company with an active production slate spanning unscripted television, scripted series, and animation, which means the infrastructure and resources behind this role are substantial. The Research Producer position pays between $70,000 and $80,000 annually, with medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off included. For someone who wants to work in breaking news television production at a brand with genuine reach, this is a direct path in.
Apply now for the Research Producer role at FOX Entertainment and put your news research skills to work on one of broadcast television’s most recognized news operations.
