Production Manager

About the Role

The role touches both the print production workflow and digital output, so fluency across formats matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full print production workflow from manuscript handoff through final press-ready files and bound delivery for multiple concurrent titles across adult and children’s publishing lists.
• Build and maintain production schedules across all active projects, flagging conflicts and adjusting timelines in coordination with editorial and design teams.
• Request, compare, and negotiate vendor quotes, preparing pricing estimates and monitoring adherence to production specs and budget targets.
• Route proofs and production materials for review, ensuring accuracy, brand consistency, and compliance with accessibility and technical publishing standards.
• Monitor project budgets and identify cost efficiencies throughout the production lifecycle without compromising print quality or delivery dates.
• Refine internal production workflows and tools to improve operational efficiency across the publishing pipeline.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in publishing production or a managing editorial environment.
• Deep knowledge of prepress processes, print file formats, and distribution channels, with digital publishing experience as a plus.
• Proven track record managing multiple complex projects simultaneously without losing detail on any single title.
• Experience with content management systems and production tracking tools used in book or media publishing workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to work across cross-functional teams including editorial, design, sales, and external vendor partners.
